Annotations
Annotation is a conversation series to shed light on the possibilities of “taking action.”
To make the symposium contents more accessible, we will cultivate open conversations with the general public in the Annotation session. Participating speakers may take up one of the seminar lectures to develop local agendas, speak on a self-selected essay announced prior to the discussion, or present a general response to issues related to the WMC_e7 events – all with the hope to cultivate more in-depth, intimate, and contextual conversations with local audiences. Hong Kong-based and local researchers and scholars will be invited.
We hope the online sessions would reach a wider group of audiences who seldomly engage in the critical and cultural contexts on the contemporary digital society.
CPU Dumplings Workshop: Sharing Session
CPU Dumplings Workshop is a cooking experience to learn the fundamentals of computation. Participants perform all the operations of a CPU (Central Processing Unit) by learning to chop chives, mince onions, fill and fold dumplings. Riding on the workshop concepts and infographic developed by Taeyoon Choi, the Hong Kong-based artist-educators had delivered workshops for the professionals from the education sector in last November.
Coming to an end of the education programme, this session will converge the artist-educators for exchanging their workshop experience and point of view on STEAM practice. Workshop curator, Winnie Soon, will moderate the talk while Project Supervisor, Linda Lai, will share her ideas on interdisciplinary learning from the educator’s perspectives.

What is the “quotidian” or the “everyday”? The 21st century witnesses not only growing attention to (big) data, but also how data processing is an integral part of population management and multi-national corporate entrepreneurialism. We can afford no more to live according to the comfortable compartmentalization of the arts, humanities, sciences and engineering, the social sciences and business studies. This talk raises one angle of rethinking the call for interdisciplinarity from the perspective of visual culture. Illustrated by three kinds of co-existing and juxtaposing images, the talk argues for the need for the everyday person to embrace new ontologies and asks what that may mean. Scholars/philosophers cited include Wilfrid Sellars, Daniel C. Dennett, Whitehead and Deleuze.
