CPU Dumplings Workshop is a cooking experience to learn the fundamentals of computation. Participants perform all the operations of a CPU (Central Processing Unity) by slicing ingredients, seasoning, filling, folding and cooking their own dumplings.

Riding on the workshop developed by Taeyoon Choi, a group of Hong Kong-based artist-educators will further adapt and deliver the workshop in a local context, in which they will perform together with participants to simulate a CPU instruction set. The workshop will cover various topics including the Control Unit, Arithmetic/Logic Unit, the Von Neumann architecture, memory and storage, serial and parallel processing.

As an organisation committed to bringing digital and coding literacy into a wider context, the Writing Machine Collective stresses the importance of demonstrating the STEAM practice in all-level education sectors and inspiring new generations of interdisciplinary innovators. Apart from the general public, we also welcome educators/teaching staff of any subjects to take part in this cross-curricular “STEAM*” experience. By incorporating artistic insights and technological knowledge, we hope to guide participants to make connections between concepts and encourage them to experiment with a cross-curricular STEAM setting in their workplace.
